Liberia visa and entry requirements

Liberian visas are issued by Liberian embassies and consulates before travel; the Liberia Immigration Service also runs an online Visa on Arrival portal, issued at Roberts International Airport, but says that if there is a Liberian embassy in your country you must apply there instead. The Consulate General in New York says ECOWAS citizens enter visa-free under the bloc's free-movement protocol, and its exemption list still includes Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, which left ECOWAS on 29 January 2025.

Cards & payments
The UK Foreign Office says Liberia remains a predominantly cash-based society and that credit and debit cards are not generally accepted, except at a few major hotels and some larger supermarkets. A few ATMs in Monrovia accept Visa cards, but they often run out of money; it advises bringing sufficient funds in US dollars to cover all expenses.
Safety — Exercise caution
The UK FCDO says Liberia is generally stable politically but the crime rate is high, mostly opportunistic theft; foreigners have been mugged in Monrovia's Mamba Point and Sinkor areas. It advises not carrying valuables in public, not walking around Monrovia or isolated areas after dark, and arranging transport in advance. Best time to visit

No official source we could read names a best season. Canada's travel advice says the rainy season runs from May to November, when heavy rain can cause flash flooding and make roads impassable, and that the dry season from December to March brings the harmattan, a dusty wind that can severely limit visibility.

The UK Foreign Office advises bringing sufficient funds in US dollars to cover all expenses: Liberia is predominantly cash-based, cards are not generally accepted, and banks can run short of both US and Liberian dollars.

Canada and the UK both say the rainy season runs from May to November, when many roads become impassable.

Australia's Smartraveller says power and water outages are common in Liberia, there is no landline telephone service and mobile phone communication may be disrupted.

The UK says that, as part of the visa application, you need to provide a certificate proving you have had a yellow fever vaccination.
