Mozambique's official eVisa portal lists the nationalities that are visa-exempt for tourism and business, for 30 or 90 days, and says applicants who do not meet those criteria are eligible for a full eVisa application. Decree 10/2023 exempts ordinary-passport holders of the countries it lists, including Canada, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Italy, from the entry visa for stays of 30 days, provided they pre-register at evisa.gov.mz at least 48 hours before boarding; the UK government calls this an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA).

It depends on your passport. Mozambique's official eVisa portal (evisa.gov.mz) lists nationalities that are visa-exempt for tourism and business for 30 or 90 days. Decree 10/2023 exempts ordinary-passport holders of the countries it lists, including Canada, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Germany and France, from the entry visa for 30 days, provided they pre-register at evisa.gov.mz at least 48 hours before boarding; the UK government calls this an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). The portal says applicants who meet none of its exemption criteria are eligible for a full eVisa application.
Decree 10/2023, which exempts citizens of the countries it lists from the visa, sets a processing fee equivalent to MZN 650, payable when pre-registering at evisa.gov.mz at least 48 hours before boarding, and allows the fee to be updated by joint ministerial order. The UK government says British travellers pay online when they apply, cannot pay on arrival at the border, and pay approximately USD 47 in total, including a USD 37 visa fee and the MZN 650 processing fee.
Mozambique's Foreign Ministry says entry visas can be obtained at the Ministry, at Mozambique's diplomatic and consular missions abroad, at the migration services and at border posts authorised for the purpose. The migration service's visa rules, which we could read only in a 2024 archived copy, describe a border visa granted by the migration services at crossing posts. The official eVisa portal tells eVisa holders that authorities check the printed approval on arrival at a Mozambique airport.
It depends on how you entered. Decree 10/2023 says the 30-day stay of the citizens it exempts can be extended by a further 30 days, with justification, applied for through the website or at the provincial migration office. Canada's travel advice says you may request one extension of 30 days from immigration authorities, that justification may be required and fees may apply. For an eVisa, Mozambique's official eVisa portal says that if you need to extend your stay you must contact the Mozambique Embassy directly.
Australia's Smartraveller advises a high degree of caution in Mozambique overall and says do not travel to Cabo Delgado province, the Erati and Memba districts of Nampula province and the Marrupa and Mecula districts of Niassa province, nor on stretches of the EN1 and EN6 roads. The UK government says that as a foreigner you must always have your passport with you.
