Frequently asked questions

Do I need a visa for Guinea?

Guinea's border police say every foreign national who wishes to enter Guinea needs a visa, except for visa waiver countries, and that you apply for the visa online on paf.gov.gn. For Community citizens entering other ECOWAS Member States, the ECOWAS Commission refers to a 90-day stay requirement and says the decision repealing it is yet to be implemented. It also says citizens of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, which ceased to be ECOWAS members on 29 January 2025, continue to enjoy, until further notice, the right of movement, residence and establishment without visas.

How does the Guinea eVisa work?

Guinea's border police say you apply for your visa online, with a scanned copy of your passport's data page. For a Polish passport the portal shows the tourist visa at USD 100 with validity not exceeding ninety days; for a US passport it shows USD 185 with validity not exceeding five years. The amount paid is kept by the administration even when the visa is denied. An Entry Visa Letter is sent once the application is approved; you then proceed to the visa on-arrival counter to get your visa, and your photo and fingerprints are captured at the enrolment counter.

Can I get a visa on arrival in Guinea?

Guinea's border police describe an online application first: an Entry Visa Letter is sent once the application is approved, and you then proceed to the visa on-arrival counter to get your visa. The UK government says that when you arrive you take your e-visa registration receipt to the entry checkpoint, where border officials will issue your visa. No official source we could read describes a visa on arrival without an approved application.

Do I need a yellow fever vaccination for Guinea?

Guinea's border police list a yellow fever certificate among the conditions for the eVisa. The UK government says a certificate is required to enter if you are coming from a country listed as a yellow fever transmission risk.

Is Guinea safe to visit?

Australia's Smartraveller reports ongoing political and social tensions, including in Conakry, that may deteriorate without warning, and Canada's travel advice says to avoid areas where demonstrations and large gatherings take place.
