From 1 October 2025 every tourist aged 12 or over staying in tourist accommodation (hotels, guesthouses, tourist residences or domaines) on the island of Mauritius pays a Tourist Fee of 3 euros per night. Accommodation managers collect it and remit it to the Mauritius Revenue Authority. A passenger fee is levied on every passenger leaving Mauritius by air, except passengers specified in the First Schedule, such as passengers in transit for less than 24 hours who do not leave the airport. When the journey originally starts from Reunion Island, Madagascar, Seychelles or Comoros, the fee is 13 US dollars for children aged 2 to under 12 and 26 US dollars from age 12; for any other passenger it is 30 and 60 US dollars. Children under 2 pay nothing. An airline or its agent that remits the fee late owes an additional amount.

Exemptions: Passengers specified in the First Schedule, including passengers in transit for less than 24 hours holding onward reservations on the same aircraft or interlining at the airport, provided they do not check out of the airport, unless a delay of the onward flight compels them to stay longer.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a visa for Mauritius?

It depends on your passport. The Passport and Immigration Office's 2025 country list says no visa is required for citizens of the EU member states, the UK, the US and other listed countries and territories, gives other nationalities a visa on arrival, and names the passports that need a visa prior to travel. It says visas are free of cost.

How long can I stay in Mauritius as a tourist?

EU citizens may stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period under the EU–Mauritius visa waiver agreement. The UK government tells British visitors they can stay up to 60 days without a visa, and Canada says Canadians need no tourist visa for stays of less than 60 days. The Passport and Immigration Office's country list gives a visa on arrival for sixty days or for two weeks, depending on nationality. The Office handles extensions of visa; applicants call personally, with documents including bank statements for the last three months and a confirmed accommodation booking.

What is the Mauritius Premium Travel Visa?

A visa for foreign nationals coming for a long stay as a tourist, retiree or professional with their family, carrying out their business or working remotely from Mauritius. It allows a non-citizen to stay for one year, renewable, and is free of cost. The Passport and Immigration Office links to an application.

What do I need to show on arrival in Mauritius?

The Passport and Immigration Office says every person entering Mauritius must hold a passport or other recognised travel document valid beyond the intended stay and a valid return ticket to their country of origin or residence, be eligible to re-enter that country, have adequate funds for the stay and have a confirmed hotel booking or sponsorship for accommodation. No official source we could read gives a daily amount.

When is cyclone season in Mauritius?

The UK government's travel advice says the tropical cyclone season usually runs from November to May, and Canada's says it occurs from November to May. The UK advice says that during a cyclone you are not allowed to leave your accommodation; Canada's tells travellers in that period to be prepared to change their travel plans on short notice.
