Cambodia visa and entry requirements

Cambodia's eVisa portal issues the tourist visa (Visa T) online for USD 30 and a one-month stay; the UK, Canadian and Australian governments say a visa can also be obtained on arrival. Cambodia's Law on Immigration (1994), Article 8, says non-immigrant aliens must get incoming visas beforehand from the Royal Government of Cambodia, through Cambodia's diplomatic authorities or consulates. The eVisa portal's news page says the Cambodia e-Visa "Type E" is now available for all countries; the portal lists Visa E (Business Visa) at USD 35 for a one-month stay. The Cambodian embassy in London's list of visa exemptions gives visa-free entry to normal passport holders of Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The e-Arrival portal says all travellers can submit the free Cambodia e-Arrival within 7 days before arrival, and the eVisa portal says all travellers are required to fill it in, even visa holders.

Arrival cards & declarations

Required
  • Cambodia e-Arrival Card (CeA) — Cambodia's e-Arrival portal lists an immigration card, a health declaration and a customs declaration, and offers a Cambodia e-Arrival app. It says all travellers can submit the e-Arrival within 7 days before their arrival and that submission is free, and it lists Techo International Airport, Siem Reap Angkor International Airport and Sihanoukville International Airport. Cambodia's eVisa portal says all travellers are required to fill in the e-Arrival even if they have been granted a visa, and Canada's travel advice says the forms must be completed within 7 days of your scheduled arrival. Staying past your permitted stay

The Australian government says overstay fines are USD 10 per day with no upper limit. An overstay of less than 30 days can be paid on departure at a border crossing; a longer one is paid at the Visa Office opposite the former Phnom Penh International Airport. It says the authorities will not let you leave until the overstay is resolved, and that an overstayer may be detained at an Immigration Removal Centre, deported at their own expense and banned from returning. The UK government also says there is no limit to the fine.

Registering your presence after arrival

Required

Done by the accommodation or the traveller.

The UK government says Cambodia's Department of Immigration runs an online registration app, the Foreigners Present in Cambodia System (FPCS). It says the manager or landlord of a hotel, guesthouse or rented accommodation registers guests in the app, and people staying with friends or family or in their own home must register themselves; a Cambodian phone number is needed for the registration to be valid. The UK government also says that if you fail to register, you may be unable to extend your visa. Australia's Smartraveller says the General Department of Immigration requires all foreigners to be registered in FPCS.

Customs & currency

Cambodia's Law on Foreign Exchange (Article 13) says the export or import by a traveller of means of payment equalling or exceeding USD 10,000 in foreign exchange, or the equivalent amount in domestic currency, shall be declared to the customs officers at border crossings.

  • Canada's travel advice says the Cambodia e-Arrival forms cover immigration, customs and health, and must be completed within 7 days of your scheduled arrival.
  • The customs declaration step of Cambodia's e-Arrival form lists the duty-free allowances as alcohol 2 L, cigarettes 200 sticks, cigars 50 sticks, tobacco 250 sticks and 35 ml, and says passengers under 18 get the allowance on perfume only. It asks whether you are carrying foreign currency or monetary instruments worth over USD 10,000 or its equivalent, and warns that carrying illicit drugs is a crime subject to life imprisonment.

Safety — Exercise caution
The UK advises against all but essential travel to within 20 km of the land border with Thailand and says there is unexploded ordnance, including landmines, in the border area; Canada advises avoiding all travel within 50 km of the Cambodia-Thailand border, and Australia advises against travel to areas within 50 km of it in seven border provinces. All three say the land border crossings with Thailand are closed or suspended. Australia advises a high degree of caution in Cambodia overall. The UK says most incidents of theft are bag snatchings, often by thieves riding past on motorbikes, that organised crime groups operate job scams advertising 'easy jobs with high pay', and that mined areas are often unmarked, so do not stray off main routes in rural areas.Verified Oct 3, 2026 · Source: gov.uk (opens in a new tab) · archived copy Aug 21, 2026 (opens in a new tab)

Tips & warnings

Cambodia's e-Visa site, evisa.gov.kh, is run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia; Canada's travel advice links to it to apply for an e-visa.

Canada's travel advice says US dollars are also widely used in Cambodia, but only newer, undamaged notes are accepted, and notes with the slightest tear will not be accepted.

The e-Arrival portal says all travellers can submit the Cambodia e-Arrival within 7 days before their arrival and that submission is free; there is also a Cambodia e-Arrival app. Cambodia's eVisa portal says all travellers are required to fill it in, even if they have been granted a visa.

Frequently asked questions

Do US citizens need a visa for Cambodia?

Cambodia's Law on Immigration (1994), Article 8, says non-immigrant aliens must get incoming visas beforehand from the Royal Government of Cambodia, through Cambodia's diplomatic authorities or consulates. Cambodia's eVisa portal issues the tourist visa (Visa T) online for USD 30, for a one-month stay; its tourist-visa page lists Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei and Myanmar under 'Visa Exemption' and does not mention the United States. Its news page says the Cambodia e-Visa "Type E" is now available for all countries; the portal lists Visa E (Business Visa) at USD 35 for a one-month stay. Canada's travel advice says visas may only be extended once.

Is the Cambodia eVisa better than the visa on arrival?

The eVisa costs USD 30; no official source we could read states the visa-on-arrival fee. Canada's travel advice says tourist and business visas allow entry for 30 days, that you can get a visa on arrival at international airports and major land border crossings, that photos are not required for it and that you can pay the fee by card but may need cash if electronic systems are unavailable; the UK Foreign Office says that if you do not get an e-visa you can get a visa on arrival at airports or land border crossings, and that you need to provide a photo and pay in US dollars. The eVisa portal lists the ports of entry accepting e-Visa as Techo, Siem Reap Angkor and Sihanoukville international airports and the Bavet and Tropaeng Kreal land border checkpoints, and says Cham Yeam and Poipet are temporarily closed for e-Visa entry until further notice.

What is the Cambodia e-Arrival card?

The Cambodia e-Arrival (CeA) is an online form whose portal, arrival.gov.kh, lists an immigration card, a health declaration and a customs declaration; there is also a Cambodia e-Arrival app. The portal says all travellers can submit it within 7 days before their arrival and that submission is free, and Cambodia's eVisa portal says all travellers are required to fill it in even if they have been granted a visa; Canada's travel advice says the forms (immigration, customs and health) must be completed within 7 days of your scheduled arrival.

Can I extend my stay in Cambodia?

The UK Foreign Office says you can get an extension of a tourist visa while you are in Cambodia. Canada's travel advice says visas must be renewed for stays over 30 days and may only be extended once. No official source we could read states the length of an extension.

Which nationalities enter Cambodia visa-free?

The list of visa exemptions between Cambodia and other countries, published by the Cambodian embassy in London (as of 28 Feb 2025), gives normal passport holders of these ASEAN countries visa-free stays: 30 days for Viet Nam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Lao PDR, Singapore and the Philippines, 14 days for Thailand, Myanmar and Brunei Darussalam. Normal passports of the Maldives (30 days) and Seychelles (15 days) are also listed.
