Lithuania visa and entry requirements

The UK government says Lithuania follows Schengen area rules, and EU nationals have the right to travel freely there. Under Regulation (EU) 2018/1806 (consolidated to 30 December 2025), nationals of the countries in its Annex II are exempt from the visa requirement for stays of no more than 90 days in any 180-day period, and nationals of the countries in Annex I must hold a visa; the Schengen Visa Code sets the visa fee at EUR 90. The UK government says only one border crossing point between Lithuania and Belarus remains open.

International Driving Permit

Lithuania is a party to both the 1949 Geneva and the 1968 Vienna Conventions on Road Traffic. Lithuania's Law on Road Traffic Safety (Art. 13) says national and international driving licences issued by parties to the 1926 Paris, 1949 Geneva and 1968 Vienna conventions, and meeting those conventions' requirements, are valid in Lithuania while the holder is not a permanent resident. The UK government says a UK photocard driving licence can be used to drive in Lithuania; holders of a paper licence may need a photocard licence or the correct version of the International Driving Permit. Regitra, Lithuania's state driver-licensing body, says citizens residing in the United Arab Emirates or the Republic of Korea who wish to drive in Lithuania during a vacation or a short visit must obtain an international driving licence issued in those countries.

Tips & warnings

The UK government says only one border crossing point between Lithuania and Belarus remains open, Medininkai–Kamenny Log, and only by private vehicle, and that Russian-plated vehicles are currently only permitted to enter Lithuania for up to 24 hours if transiting to or from the Kaliningrad Oblast. Canada says Lithuania enforces an EU entry ban on vehicles with Russian or Belarusian licence plates, and that certain exceptions apply.

The UK government says the Curonian Spit is divided between Lithuania and Russia, with the southern half part of Kaliningrad, and that the walk along the Spit in Lithuanian territory will eventually reach Russian territory; Canada says the Nida border-crossing point between Russia (Kaliningrad) and Lithuania is closed.

Canada's travel advice says to be cautious of fraudulent websites claiming to sell ETIAS authorizations. The EU's official ETIAS website says ETIAS is currently not in operation and no applications are collected.

EU nationals have the right to travel freely in Lithuania. Under Regulation (EU) 2018/1806 (consolidated to 30 December 2025), nationals of the countries in its Annex II are exempt from the visa requirement for stays of no more than 90 days in any 180-day period, and nationals of the countries in Annex I must hold a visa. Lithuania's Foreign Ministry says that under Law No XIV-1888 of 20 April 2023 the acceptance of Schengen visa applications of Russian and Belarusian citizens at Lithuania's visa authorities abroad is suspended, except when the Ministry mediates the application, for example for family members of Lithuanian or EU citizens, or when the trip cannot be postponed. The European Commission says Russian nationals will no longer be able to receive multiple-entry visas.

Can I cross into Lithuania from Belarus?

The UK government says only one border crossing point between Lithuania and Belarus remains open, Medininkai–Kamenny Log, that crossing is only possible by private vehicle as scheduled buses are not operating, and that Lithuania denies entry to cars registered in Belarus, with certain exemptions.
