Monaco visa and entry requirements

Monaco's government says foreign nationals staying under three months need the passport, and any visa, required to enter France. Nationals of the European Economic Area and associated states need no visa, only a valid passport or identity card; nationals of other countries need a valid passport and a Schengen entry visa, applied for at the embassy of the Schengen country through which they enter Europe, though for stays under 90 days certain nationalities are exempt from the Schengen visa. The UK government says France handles immigration matters for Monaco and that the Schengen area's 90-day visa-free limit includes Monaco.

Monaco is a party to the 1949 Geneva and the 1968 Vienna Conventions on Road Traffic (UN Treaty Collection). Monaco's Highway Code (Art. 116-1) recognises as valid a driving licence duly issued by a state that has ratified the international convention on road traffic, by an EU or EEA state, or by a state with a reciprocity agreement with Monaco, provided it is valid when used; it does not mention an international driving permit. The UK government says UK drivers need both the 1968 version of the international driving permit (IDP) and their UK driving licence.
