International Driving Permit

Mongolia is a party to the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic (UN Treaty Collection). Mongolia's Law on Road Traffic Safety (Art. 17.3) accepts either a valid driving licence or an international driving permit issued by a party to the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic and conforming to it, and prohibits driving on a licence or permit from a country that is not a party (Art. 17.4). The UK Foreign Office says UK drivers need a 1968 International Driving Permit and their UK licence, and that the 1949 permit is not accepted any more; the law, which ranks above that advice, accepts a conforming national licence on its own.
