Singapore visa and entry requirements

Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority says the period of stay is determined by the Visit Pass issued as an e-Pass at the checkpoint on entry, not by any visa. Its list of travel documents that need a visa includes India, Russia and Pakistan among others; Singapore's embassy in Beijing says holders of ordinary Chinese passports are exempt from visas for a stay of up to 30 days from 9 February 2024. ICA says all travellers must submit the free SG Arrival Card within three days, including the day of arrival, before arriving.

International Driving Permit

Singapore is a party to the 1949 Geneva Convention on Road Traffic (UN Treaty Collection). The Singapore Police Force says a foreigner residing in Singapore for less than 12 months who holds a valid foreign driving licence does not need to convert it (with listed exceptions), and must have the foreign driving licence and an International Driving Permit issued by an authorised body from their country of origin, or an official English translation of the foreign licence if an IDP is not available. It says foreigners from an ASEAN member state do not need an IDP.

Frequently asked questions

Do US citizens need a visa for Singapore?

The US State Department gives the tourist visa requirement as not required for stays under 90 days. Singapore's ICA says the period of stay is set by the Visit Pass issued as an e-Pass at the checkpoint on entry, and that all travellers must submit the free SG Arrival Card within three days, including the day of arrival, before arriving.

What is the SG Arrival Card and who needs it?

ICA says the SG Arrival Card is the electronic version of the paper disembarkation/embarkation card, submitted with an electronic health declaration. All travellers must submit it within three days, including the day of arrival, before arriving, except those transiting without seeking immigration clearance and residents entering through Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints. Submission is free, via the SGAC e-Service or the MyICA app, and the SG Arrival Card is not a visa.

Can Chinese citizens visit Singapore without a visa?

Yes. Singapore's embassy in Beijing says that from 9 February 2024 holders of ordinary passports issued by the People's Republic of China are exempt from visa requirements for a stay of up to 30 days. ICA says all travellers must also submit the SG Arrival Card before arriving.

Do Indian citizens need a visa for Singapore?

Yes. ICA says you need a visa to enter Singapore with an Indian travel document (holders of diplomatic, official and service passports excepted). The application can be submitted online through a strategic partner or a local contact in Singapore, or at a Singapore Overseas Mission or through its authorised visa agent; a S$30 non-refundable processing fee applies, and applications are processed within three working days. The SG Arrival Card must also be submitted before arrival.

Can I bring cigarettes or a vape into Singapore?

Vapes: no — the UK government says vapes and e-cigarettes are banned in Singapore and illegal to bring in, including for personal use. Cigarettes: no official source we could read sets out the duty rules; ICA says to declare all dutiable goods at the Red Channel.
