Egypt visa and entry requirements

Egypt's Ministry of Interior issues tourist e-Visas through visa2egypt.gov.eg (30 USD single entry, 65 USD multiple entries) to nationals of the countries listed on the portal. The UK and Canadian governments say their citizens can also get a visa on arrival, paid in cash in US dollars, and the UK says visitors who fly into Sharm El-Sheikh and stay less than 15 days at the resorts of Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba or Taba get a free entry permission stamp instead. For nationalities not on the portal's list, no official page we could read states the rule, except where the Egyptian Consulate in Washington or the traveller's own government names it.

Frequently asked questions

Do US citizens need a visa for Egypt?

Yes. The United States of America is on the e-Visa portal's list of nationalities that may be issued an e-Visa: apply at visa2egypt.gov.eg (30 USD single entry, 65 USD multiple entries). The Egyptian Consulate in Washington says visa applicants, except listed nationalities, are advised to get the visa in advance, and that from 1 September 2026 all Egyptian airports have moved from visa-on-arrival stickers to an electronic QR code.

Is Egypt's visa on arrival better than the eVisa?

The eVisa costs 30 USD (single entry) or 65 USD (multiple entry), paid online at visa2egypt.gov.eg. The UK government's travel advice says getting an e-visa in advance can help prevent delays, that tourist e-visas are valid for up to 3 months and visas on arrival for up to 30 days, and that a physical visa on arrival costs 30 USD cash at approved airports, while Cairo International Airport also sells a digital one by card for 36 USD, including a 6 USD digital service fee.

What is the free Sinai entry stamp?

The UK government's travel advice says that if you arrive by air at Sharm El-Sheikh and stay less than 15 days at resorts in Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba or Taba, you do not need a visa and get a free entry permission stamp on arrival. If you plan to travel outside the resorts or stay more than 15 days, you must get a visa, available at Sharm El-Sheikh Airport or online.

How long must my passport be valid to enter Egypt?

Egypt's e-Visa portal lists a passport valid for at least 6 months from the arrival date among the entry requirements on arrival.

Do I need vaccinations for Egypt?

WHO's country list says Egypt requires proof of yellow fever vaccination from travellers aged 9 months or over arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission, or who transited for more than 12 hours through an airport in one. It also records that Egypt requires proof of polio vaccination from travellers arriving from certain countries.
