The Department of Foreign Affairs says nationals of the countries it lists under Executive Order No. 408 may enter the Philippines without a visa for an initial stay of 30 days, with a passport valid at least six months beyond the stay and a return or onward ticket; the Bureau of Immigration handles extensions at its offices. Arriving passengers, except foreign diplomats and dignitaries, 9(e) visa holders and holders of diplomatic or official passports, must register on the free eTravel platform, which allows registration within 72 hours before arrival.

Frequently asked questions

Do US citizens need a visa for the Philippines?

No. The United States is on the Department of Foreign Affairs' list of countries whose nationals may enter without a visa for an initial stay of 30 days, with a passport valid at least six months beyond the stay and a return or onward ticket. The Bureau of Immigration handles extensions of stay. Arriving passengers must also register on eTravel, which allows registration within 72 hours before arrival.

What is eTravel and who needs it?

eTravel (etravel.gov.ph, its only official website) is a free digital data collection platform for passengers arriving in and departing from the Philippines. Arriving passengers, foreign or Filipino, must register, except foreign diplomats and their dependants, foreign dignitaries, 9(e) visa holders and holders of diplomatic and official or service passports. Registration is possible within 72 hours before arrival; the QR code is shown to the airline before boarding and to customs on arrival.

Is an onward ticket really required for the Philippines?

Yes, for visa-free visitors. The Department of Foreign Affairs' visa policy says visa-free nationals must possess return tickets to their country of origin or outward-bound tickets to their next country of destination. The UK government says immigration officials and airlines may ask for proof of return or onward travel, and Canada says customs officials may ask to see a return or onward ticket.

How do I extend my stay in the Philippines?

The Bureau of Immigration says visa-free tourists admitted for 30 days apply for an initial extension of 29 days (the visa waiver, PHP 3,030) at its main office or other authorised immigration offices. It lists further extensions of authorized stay beyond 59 days by 1 or 2 months, and a Long-Stay Visitor Extension of not more than six months, and refers to a maximum allowable stay of 36 months for visa-non-required nationals.

Do Indian citizens need a visa for the Philippines?

Not for short visits. The Department of Foreign Affairs says Indian nationals may enter visa-free for a non-extendible and non-convertible period of 14 days for tourism and business, with a passport valid at least six months beyond the stay, confirmed hotel accommodation, proof of financial capacity and a return or onward ticket. Those holding valid US, Japanese, Australian, Canadian, Schengen, Singapore or UK visas or residence permits may enter visa-free for a non-extendible period of 30 days for tourism.
