Under Law No 79/2021 on Foreigners, a foreigner who exceeds the permitted stay but leaves voluntarily before the authorities order removal is fined 50,000 lek, or 100,000 lek if the overstay is longer than one month. The border and migration authority issues a removal order when a foreigner no longer meets the conditions of stay, and the entry ban that may follow is decided case by case, from 3 months to 5 years. A single-entry visa includes a 15-day period of exemption from the overstay penalty.
