Oman visa and entry requirements

Oman's Foreign Ministry says GCC citizens do not need visas, and that visitors from more than 100 countries and regions are exempt from entry visas for stays up to 14 days, in two groups: nationals of the first group, which includes the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, and nationals of the second group who live in or hold a valid visa for the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, a Schengen country or Japan, or live in a GCC country in an eligible profession. It says tourists will usually need the Royal Oman Police's unsponsored Tourist Visit Visa, and that other nationalities can find their visa options on the Royal Oman Police eVisa website. Oman's Foreigners Residence Law, published by the Royal Oman Police, says the holder of a passport or travel document must have an entry visa from the competent authority or from Omani embassies or consulates.

The Government of Canada advises avoiding non-essential travel to Oman due to the volatile security situation in the region. The UK government says that since 8 July there have been strikes and retaliatory attacks by Iran in a number of locations across the region, including Oman, and that British nationals in the Middle East should be prepared for possible flight cancellations and periodic airspace closures. It says personal attacks against foreign nationals are relatively rare but happen, that it is illegal to photograph some government buildings and military sites, and that wadis are prone to flash flooding after heavy rainfall from October to March.Verified Oct 3, 2026 · Source: gov.uk (opens in a new tab) · archived copy Jul 31, 2026 (opens in a new tab)

The UK government says wadis (dry riverbeds) are prone to flash flooding after heavy rainfall from October to March, and to check the weather forecast before travelling to a wadi and avoid places where heavy rain is expected, and for at least one day afterwards.

The UK government says road trips to the desert and mountains can be dangerous unless you are in a well-equipped 4-wheel-drive vehicle, and to travel in convoy if possible, take water and a mobile or satellite phone, and leave a copy of your travel plans with friends or relatives.

The UK government says to dress modestly in public areas, including shopping malls, with clothing that covers the tops of your arms and legs (below the knee), and not to wear swimming costumes or beachwear in public areas except on tourist beaches or at swimming pools.

The UK government says tourists and visitors can buy and drink alcohol in licensed venues, such as hotels, restaurants and clubs, and that the legal drinking age is 21. It is illegal to drink alcohol in public, be drunk in public or drink-drive, and if a driver is tested and found to have any alcohol in their system they may get a fine and possible imprisonment.
